The craft of rush chair seating came to Lunenburg County with settlers from Europe and Scotland where rushes have been used since medieval times. Rush a tall plant with a round stem provided resourceful 19th-century chairmakers with free and renewable material to make beautiful, comfortable seats. This weekend staff will demonstrate how to fill a chair seat using rush.
