Interim Executive Director - extended until Monday June 12

Ross Farm Museum is interviewing for the position of Interim Executive Director. This interim manager position will be a six-month to one-year temporary contract, a perfect position for an experienced manager with demonstrated leadership and managerial skills. This Interim Manager will be expected to manage Ross Farm operations and help guide the farm through a period of adjustment. The successful candidate will provide a stable structure for staff and management including laying the groundwork for a successful transition to a permanent Executive Director.
Ross Farm is located in the middle of Southwestern Nova Scotia in the thriving, small community of New Ross, about an hour’s drive from Halifax, the Province’s capital. The community boasts a school, gas station, grocery/liquor store, hardware store, post office, restaurants, a Frenchy’s, blacksmith shop, a fairground, Legion, firehall, community centre plus many more facilities and businesses. It, also, has several vibrant volunteer organizations, including garden clubs, a historical society, and a development society. The Ross Farm Museum is one of the major employers and is open year-round.
Ross Farm Museum is operated by the New Ross District Museum Society (NRDMS), a volunteer Board of Directors, for the Province of Nova Scotia. It is part of the Nova Scotia Museum’s Family of 28 Museum Sites. It is a locally managed Museum that receives an operating grant and generates the remainder of its revenues through innovative enterprises, admissions, and other grants. Ross Farm includes a $4.45 million Learning Centre, with significant building funds donated from the local community and other Nova Scotians. The other two thirds of the funding came from Federal, Provincial and Municipal sources. It was a wonderful example of Public-Private cooperation.
Ross Farm Museum is a living history, agricultural museum. The mission of the New Ross District Museum Society is: To depict the authentic experience of a typical 19th and early 20th-century working upland family farm in Nova Scotia and develop awareness of the relevance of traditional agricultural practices to contemporary life.
Required Skills/Experience/Attributes:
- Demonstrated leadership and management of human resources, financial, operational and marketing processes, including process development, implementation and improvement
- A self-starting change manager, who is an excellent communicator, takes initiative and has the ability to make sound decisions by weighing and considering a multitude of complex factors
- A university degree plus 5 years related experience, or an equivalent comprised of 8 years related experience in at least three of the following areas: agriculture, museology, education, business, communications, history, a historic site and/or a living history environment (preferably in an agricultural context)
